Acronis Snap Deploy 4 – Whats Different?

Setup : Installed Acronis Snap Deploy 4 Beta on a Windows 7 Professional machine.

So.. whats different?

1. Obviously the management console home page is very different, more organized and consolidated. Neat and clean.

The left panel has 5 sections:

a. Welcome Screen: which has the Create Image, Deploy Image and Configure user-initiated deployment options

b. Machines: This shows the machines available for deployment tasks. One can add machines from list or using MAC address here.

c. Deployment tasks: It shows all tasks.

d. PXE server: For configuration of PXE server

e. Licenses: This is basically the section for managing licenses.

2. There is no separate License Server management console. There is a tab on the left panel to access the license section from the main management console itself.

3. On the tool bar ‘operations’ and ‘view’ has been replaced by ‘Connect’ and ‘Action’ with some additional options.

4. The help menu has additional options like ‘view log’, ‘Collect system information’, ‘obtain license’ and ‘add license’. The view log option was under the Tools menu in ASD 3.

5. The Tools menu has three additional options ‘upload components to pxe’,  ‘upload pe image to pxe’ and ‘create pe image’.

6. The Action menu has ‘Configure default settings’ which is nothing but ‘options’ which was under Tools menu in ASD3. Apart from this it has ‘deploy image’, ‘configure user-initiated deployment’, ‘create image’ and ‘check image’.

7. Another important difference is the addition of “Collect system information” component to bootable media creation and PXE server configuration.

8. The default options page (now called Configure default settings) also has some changes. ‘Network utilization’ & ‘MAC filtering’ has been removed and replaced with “TCP/IP properties”.

9. The ‘scheduled deployment tasks’ tab which was earlier under “Manage Deployment” has been moved to out to a separate section which can be accessed by clicking “Deployment Tasks” from the left panel.

An important thing that I noticed is that under PXE configuration wizard ‘Run Acronis Standalone Utility’ component is also available to be uploaded to PXE. However selecting this option results in error “E001000F: Incorrect components have been selected”.
