Clean Install of Windows XP

1. Boot off the WIN XP Home Upgrade CD. (Insert the disk into the CD drive and restart the computer and press a key on the message “Press any key to boot from CD”)

However if it doesnt boot from CD you can do the following to change the Boot sequence in the
BIOS. (THIS IS IF IT DOESNT BOOT FROM CD) And heres how you can do that:

When the computer starts up you might get a screen that says Press F2 or DEL (or any other key) to enter SETUP or BIOS if that screen doesnt appear keep hitting the F2 or DEL on startup and enter the BIOS.
Once into the BIOS there should be a BOOT menu select it,
Under the BOOT menu it would show you the BOOT Sequence it would most probably look as the following:

1. FLOPPY DRIVE
2. HARD DRIVE
3. ATAPI CD-ROM

There would most probably be instructions as to change the boot sequence by either using the UP & DOWN keys or the + & – keys. set the Boot Sequence such that the CD-Rom is the first device.

1.CD-ROM
2.HARD DRIVE
3.FLOPPY DRIVE

and then save and exit the BIOS.
Once out of the BIOS it would ask you to “HIT any key to BOOT from CD” and you would have to hit ENTER if you dont get it the first time restart and hit ENTER as soon as athe message comes up.

2. Press ENTER to Setup up Windows now.
3. Press F8 to accept the License agreement.
4. It might ask you to choose between Hitting “r” for Repair or to install a fresh Copy of Windows Hit “ESC”.
5. Press “ESC”
6. It might ask you to put in a qualifying Media such as a WIN 98 or WIN ME Cd.
7. Then put in the respective CD, & it would copy files from it.
8. After that it will give you an option to Format the Hard Drive.
9. Choose the format type you want. Please select NTFS (WHICH is more secure).
10.And then perform a FULL FORMAT. (Not the quick one).
11.After it’s done it would ask you to insert the WIN XP Cd.
11.It would then copy files.
12.Then it would re-boot.
13.Please make sure that you dont press any key on the keyboard and also do not take the Cd out of the drive, during any reboot that happens through the installation.
14.Once it boots back it would start the installation process (“Exciting New Look”)
15.It might ask you to put in a product key at some point of the installation process.
16.The Installation process is quite straight forward.
17.And once its over you’ll be good to go.

Please make sure to install an Antivirus Program as soon as possible, preferably before you attempt to connect to the internet, to keep the computer secure from viruses and other security threats.

After the installation for Windows XP Professional Edition is completed please go through this link to install Windows XP SP2.
