I needed an ESXi host for hosting the AWS (Amazon Web Services) Storage Gateway which had a heavy resource requirement. So none of the my other ESXi whiteboxes could work. Hence I had to build a new one. Below are the specs:
Motherboard: HCL Branded Intel DH55PJ
Processor: Intel Core i3 550 3.2 GHz (Hyperthreaded)
RAM: 2 x 4GB DDR3 RAM
HDD: Seagate 500GB
ESXi: 5.1.0 Build 799733
Everthing worked rightaway without needing any modifications. I am running ESXi from an 8GB flash drive and using the 500GB hard disk as datastore.
